Today in class we watched a video describing what is the Uttarayan festival and discussed several points in Gujarati

We discussed

-          What date is it? - 14 January

-          What is the name of the festival? - Uttarayan

-          What do people do on that day? - fly kites

-          Adults use a special thread to fly the kites called? - "Maanjo"

-          It’s a festival celebrated by "people from all walks of life"

-          What kinds of foods are made to celebrate the occasion? - Chikki, Oondhyu

-          What are Tukkals? - paper lantern kites

-          In which year did the International Kite flying first start in India? - 1989

o        In which state is it held? - Gujarat

In class, materials to make a small kite was given to each child.

HOMEWORK: 

(a)    Parents, discuss with your child the above points mentioned on Uttarayan festival, and ask them the questions and use the video as a reference

 

(b)   Make the kite using the materials provided:

-          join the letters on the kite in a sequence & complete the kite

-          decorate it as you like

 

(c)    Name or draw a few shapes of the kites you saw in the video. Which one is your favourite?

 

(d)   For next week, 20 January 2013, please bring the pips or seeds again (see homework from last week 06 January 2013)
